Business rates - a national tax collected by local councils
Business rates (non-domestic rates) is a means by which businesses and others who occupy non-domestic properties contribute towards the cost of local services.
This money, together with revenue from council tax payers and the revenue support grant provided by the government, is used to pay for local services.
