Food Hygiene Rating Scheme
About the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme
The council takes part in the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS). This scheme runs in partnership with the Food Standards Agency and all ratings are published on their website.
Every food business in the borough is inspected by one of the food safety officers from Environmental Health to ensure that all food is handled and prepared safely. After this inspection, an overall rating from 0 to 5 is awarded, based on the food safety standards found at the time of the inspection.
The ratings are:
- 5 - Very good
- 4 - Good
- 3 - Generally satisfactory
- 2 - Improvement necessary
- 1 - Major improvement necessary
- 0 - Urgent improvement necessary
