Things to consider before buying your home
Getting the right advice
Before borrowing money to buy your home, take time to consider all the costs involved and the choices available. Compare loan and mortgage deals on offer, before you make up your mind. If possible, get independent advice.
If you are approached by a person or company offering to help you buy your home, check out what's in it for them. Be suspicious if anyone tells you that the right to buy scheme is going to end. They may be trying to persuade you to do something that benefits them, rather than you. If in any doubt, contact the council.
If you are considering to buy a flat, please remember that you will be eligible to pay some leasehold charges. To find out more about these charges, please visit our guide to leasehold service charges
For further information about the right to buy scheme, please complete our right to buy contact form or contact the Right to Buy Officer on 01455 255890.
Alternatively, you can visit right to buy: buying your council home (GOV.UK) for further information.
