Award categories and criteria
Children and young people awards
Active School Award
A school that has increased participation in sport or physical activity in their programme. We want to hear about the positive impact being active has had on the students, their education, health, and wellbeing. The school could also have strong links with community sport and local clubs.
Primary School Team of the Year
A primary school team who has not necessarily achieved competitive success but has strong team spirit and the best sporting values.
Secondary School Team of the Year
A secondary school team who has not necessarily achieved competitive success but has strong team spirit and the best sporting values.
Junior Team/Club of the Year
This award is for a club or team who operates outside a school environment that has shown great success, determination, and commitment as a team during the past year. This may be a team who has vastly improved their performance but doesn’t need to have won any sporting events.
Junior Sportsperson of the Year
This award is for a young sportsperson who has excelled in their chosen sport (or sports) this year. We are looking for someone who can show success and improvement over the year (examples of local, county, regional, national, and international competitions entered with placings required)
Junior Volunteer of the Year
An award to celebrate a young person who has made a difference through volunteering. This could be someone who has improved the lives of others through physical activity, has dedicated their time to increasing peer wellbeing, or has helped to reduce barriers to physical activity in the community.
Young Hero
This award is to celebrate the achievements of a young person in the district. We are looking for stories of perseverance, success, and determination. It could be someone who has overcome personal barriers to being active, but they don’t have to have achieved sporting success.
Adult awards
Team of the Year
This award is for a team who has shown great determination and commitment as a team during the past year. This could be an established or new team in any sport or activity. They do not need to have won any sporting events, but demonstrate good values and community commitment.
Community Group/Club of the Year
An award for a community group or club who is full of dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to keep themselves and others active. We want to hear about the organisations who empower the community to get moving. This may be a sports club, a walking group, a fitness class, or any other group that gets together to be active.
Sports Person of the Year
This award is for a sportsperson who has excelled and/or exceeded all expectations in their performances. We are looking for people who have achieved success, and/or vastly improved their own performance over the past year (examples of local, county, regional, national, and international competitions entered with placings required, or evidence of charitable endeavours)
Inclusivity Award
For a club/group/individual that has shown dedication to providing a safe and inclusive environment in which to partake in physical activity.
Outstanding Contribution Award
This special award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to sport or physical activity in the district over many years. This may be a volunteer, or a local business owner who enables others to keep active or someone who has got involved in a charitable sport/physical activity event. We want to hear about the role models and pillars of the physical activity community.
Inspiring Instructor Award
This award is to recognise the instructors that deliver sports and physical activity into the community. This can be someone who has shown patience and dedication towards a group or individual, has helped others overcome barriers, or has made a positive impact in your life. This can be a paid role, or voluntary.
Most Improved of the Year
This award is for an individual who has made good progress in their sporting or physical activity journey in the last year. This can be someone who has started physical activity for the first time, overcome barriers, or has inspired others to get involved in community activity.
Active Mums Award
This award is to celebrate mothers who have risen to the challenge of being more active. This can be someone who has achieved amazing sporting results, someone who has chosen to go for gentle short walks, or anyone in between.
New Group Award
We are looking for a sport or physical activity group that has started in the last year. They may have had a big community impact, gained lots of group members, or have delivered services in a new and unique way.
Volunteer of the Year
An award to celebrate a person who has made a difference through volunteering. This could be someone who has improved the lives of others through physical activity, has dedicated their time to increasing peer wellbeing, or has helped to reduce barriers to physical activity in the community.
