Tenancy deposit protection

When is the deposit returned?

At the end of the tenancy, the landlord should return the deposit within 10 days once the amount given back is agreed. If there is a dispute over the amount being returned the deposit will be protected by the tenancy deposit protection scheme (TDP) until the dispute is resolved.

Tenants should receive the full deposit if they:

  • Return the property undamaged and in good condition, allowing for fair wear and tear
  • Paid all rent in full and up to date by the end of the tenancy
  • Met the terms of the tenancy agreement throughout the tenancy period
