Good neighbour schemes
Good neighbour schemes are community-led projects that link people in your neighbourhood who are in need of local volunteers who are willing to help them.
The scheme is managed by a small group of volunteers who act as co-ordinators. Anyone in need of help can contact the scheme and the co-ordinator on duty will link them up with someone suitably skilled and with the time available to provide the help required.
Types of support can include befriending, transport and IT support.
Examples of good neighbourhood schemes are:
- Desford's good neighbour scheme (desfordparishcouncil.co.uk) which has been providing support to the residents of Botcheston, Desford, and Newtown Unthank since 2014
- Markfield's good neighbour scheme (facebook.com) is a community-led project run by volunteers. The scheme aims to link those in need of help and support with local volunteers
