Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation

Under the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation scheme (Phase IV), our ‘Heart smart’ sessions offer a safe and progressive way to re-establish fitness and strength after a cardiac event, cardiac surgery or for individuals with established coronary heart disease.

Our specialist instructors have undertaken training to deliver a supervised programme which aims to offer continual support and encouragement throughout the programme.

Participants are referred by their cardiac consultant and will be contacted to arrange an induction with an instructor before beginning the programme.

The 12-week programme takes place at Sport in Desford or Hinckley Leisure Centre and are either held in the gym or as a circuit-based session once a week. Sessions are £3 each.

People are eligible for the steady steps programme if they are aged over 65, are at risk of falling, have a high fear or falling or poor balance, or have fallen less than three times in the past 12 months.

The steady steps programme takes place at venues across the borough based upon the need of the local population.

Escape pain

ESCAPE-pain is a group rehabilitation programme for people with chronic joint pain that integrates educational self-management and coping strategies with an exercise regime individualised for each participant.

The course helps participants to understand their condition and highlights simple changes that will help to manage pain. The course is a progressive exercise programme run by two instructors who are on hand to support participants to ensure each exercise is appropriate for them. There is also an education element to each session, delivered as a group conversation where each participant has the opportunity to ask questions and consider ways to carry on physical activity after the course.

This course is ideal if you have long term pain associated with osteoarthritis in the knee and/or hip or in your back.

Sessions will last for an hour and are twice a week for six weeks. The course is free to attend.
