Car parks - pay and display

The pay and display system

All of our car parks operate with a pay and display system. A ticket with enough time to cover your stay should be purchased either from one of the ticket machines or by using the PayByPhone system.

Ticket machines

A ticket with sufficient time to cover your stay should be purchased from one of the ticket machines and attached to the inside of the front windscreen of the parked vehicle. All of our car parks accept coin, debit or credit card and contactless methods of payment, except Druid Street car park which accepts coins only. Our machines take all coins apart from 1p and 2p. We accept all major credit and debit cards. The machines do not give change.

PayByPhone

You can purchase a digital ticket to park in our pay and display car parks. Digital tickets are linked to vehicle registration numbers and do not need printing. Your payment amount and vehicle details will be electronically visible to our enforcement officers. Each car park has its own location code and tickets are not transferable. Using PayByPhone incurs additional costs of 5p for using the service and 10p for optional reminder texts. If you call to use the PayByPhone service, you will also be charged your service provider's current rate for making phone calls.

To download the PayByPhone app or to pay online, visit PayByPhone (paybyphone.co.uk), or you can call them on 0330 400 7275.

Ticket machine faults

The larger car parks have more than one ticket machine. If a machine is not working, try another machine. If none of the machines work, please call the helpline on 07966 201 858.

If you phone out of hours, please leave a brief message telling us:

  • Which car park you are parked at
  • Details of your vehicle: make and registration number
  • What the problem is

Tickets purchased at or for any car park are for use in that car park only and cannot be transferred.

Pricing policy

We charge for the use of our central area car parks with the aim to discourage people from unnecessarily taking up places longer than they need to, which allows for a greater availability of spaces for use by shoppers. Elsewhere throughout the borough, the council will continue to operate a free parking service for the public.

Charges apply between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday (unless stated otherwise).

Please note the machines do not give change.

Security

Within many of the car parks in Hinckley, Earl Shilton and Barwell we have CCTV cameras which are monitored at the Hinckley Police Station. These cameras can be moved remotely to look at car parks and the surrounding area in full.

For safety and security purposes, all Civil Enforcement officers patrolling our car parks wear video cameras on their body.

For further information regarding the use of these cameras, please visit the body-worn video operating procedure page.
