Issues affecting bin collections
Helpful tips
We suggest the following:
- Any wheeled bins which have the lid even slightly ajar will cause problems on windy days and possibly damage to property/residents if the rubbish blows out
- When you put your wheeled bin out, try and place it at an angle so that the wind will not blow the lid open
- Please ensure your lid is fully closed. An open lid is also a temptation to foxes, badgers, birds, cats and dogs. Get into the habit of squashing all containers and removing air out of bags. This will create more room in your bin and your lid will then close
- Recycle as much as possible. This will make more room for other waste in your wheeled bin, which will help you if the weather causes a delay in our normal routine
We ask you not to do the following:
- Tins of paint, containers of oil or and other liquids must not be put in your wheeled bins. When paint and oil are in the wagon the containers will be compressed and the contents could end up on the road - not only is this unsightly but a danger to traffic. Motor oil and cooking oil can be taken to the recycling and household waste sites (leicestershire.gov.uk) operated by Leicestershire County Council. Unwanted paint can be reused by taking your containers to the Whetstone Recycling & Household Waste Site on Enderby Road, Leicester
- Don't visit the Recycling & Household Waste Sites during gales since you may find them closed
- In adverse weather situations it is better not to leave your containers out overnight. Should the conditions worsen then the containers themselves would become a hazard to yourself, other residents and passing traffic
