Fly tipping
Spring
Fly-tipping costs the taxpayers of our borough around £25,000 every year. From small deposits of one or two black sacks, through to full van loads of construction material, green waste and tyres, the Borough Council has to deal with about 40 incidents of fly-tipping every month. Our campaign activities focused on engaging the public to remind them of their responsibilities, as well as stepping up enforcement efforts.
Campaign activities
- Promote ‘duty of care’ public responsibilities via press release and social media
- Advice sheet distributed with all business rates annual mailing
- Increase awareness of changes to local waste site opening times
- Waste transfer licence ‘stop and check’ day
- Information appeal signage installed at fly-tip sites for one week (waste left in-situ)
- CCTV system used in hotspot fly-tip locations with supporting signage
- Survey completed to determine general knowledge of fly-tipping and the associated responsibilities
