Stalls at the Switch-on

Christmas lights stalls

Art and craft stalls

If you would like to have an arts and crafts stall at the market, the normal Friday market fee of £23.50 will be charged, and you must provide proof of public liability insurance cover with an indemnity of £5 million, along with a risk assessment document. We are interested in supporting local businesses, in particular those selling locally sourced, handcrafted, or fair-trade products. If this is you, please make sure you let us know your green credentials when you describe what you are selling on the application form. Please note that we try to limit the number of stalls selling the same or similar products. Deadline to apply online is 12 August. After this deadline, please contact Cultural Services using the link at the bottom of this page, to check stall availability.

Charity stalls

A limited number of stalls are available free of charge to local charities, such as groups of Brownies, Guides, Scouts, church groups and community groups. These stalls are offered by invitation, but all charities must complete the online application form, showing proof of public liability insurance cover with an indemnity of £5 million and a risk assessment. If charities are holding a funding raising stall, a license is not required. If the charity has a collection tin for donation(s), they will need to own or apply for a street collection license

Charities are only permitted to sell low-risk food items such as hot drinks, cakes and mince pies (kept covered to prevent contamination). Charities are restricted from selling any food products that require open food preparation.

After invitations are sent, it is rare for any unused stall spaces to be left available to other fundraisers, so we do not offer an open invitation to attend. We also prioritise commercial stalls as an income source, so the remaining free stalls are limited and in high demand. Allocation will be at the council's discretion. Booking is normally carried out during August, so if you are a charity looking to attend and your charity has not attended before, please contact Cultural Services below, to check stall availability, before completing the application form online. 100% of all proceeds from any charity stall must be donated to the named charity. Fundraisers donating a percentage of the proceeds will not be accepted.

Food and drink stalls

Food and drink vendors are welcome to apply for a stall, however, please note that we already have regular market traders who are licensed to sell hot food, including burgers, hot dogs, and jacket potatoes. This will be considered when booking additional food and drink stalls. The fee for food and drink stalls is £92 for a pitch of up to three meters by six metres. A food hygiene rating of four or above is required to attend this event, alongside proof of public liability insurance cover with an indemnity of £5 million and a risk assessment. Baked goods and sweet stalls are also included in our catering pitch fee. Deadline to apply online is 12 August. After this deadline, please contact Cultural Services below, to check stall availability.

Young Enterprise scheme

Young people often have a stall at the event as part of the Young Enterprise scheme. These stalls are available at a lower cost of £11.75, which is half the fee of having a regular stall. You will need to provide proof of public liability insurance cover with an indemnity of £5 million and a risk assessment, this is normally available from your school or college. Deadline to apply online is 12 August. After this deadline, please contact Cultural Services below, to check stall availability.
