Medicals - Hackney carriage and private hire licence
Medical summary
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council needs to be satisfied that all licensed Hackney carriage and private hire drivers are medically fit. In order to assess an individual's medical fitness, the council applies the standards required for a DVLA Group 2 licence which requires a higher level of fitness than is needed for an ordinary driving licence.
How do I arrange my medical?
The medical form can be downloaded DVLA driver Group 2 medical report form (PDF)
Alternatively, we can send you a form: Contact Licensing: Licensing contact form
The medical examination must be completed by your doctor or by a doctor from your group practice. The eye test on the form should be completed by an optician. Please ensure you book your medical examination with your doctor several months in advance of your application or licence renewal as there may be a waiting list.
This medical report cannot be issued free of charge as part of the National Health Service, so you will be required to pay the medical practitioner's fee.
If you are applying for a hackney carriage or private hire driver's licence for the first time, you must bring your completed medical form when you apply.
How often do I have to have a medical?
A DVLA Group 2 medical must be renewed every five years until the age of 65, when they are renewed every year without an upper age limit.
