Leicestershire County Council election (1 May 2025)

About the election

The next scheduled election taking place in this area will be on 1 May 2025 to elect councillors for Leicestershire County Council. The election timetable will begin in March 2025. Updates will be published in this page.

Standing for election

To stand as a candidate, you will need to submit a completed nomination paper that has been signed by registered electors from the area and shows that you are qualified to be a candidate.

You can only submit a nomination paper during the nomination period of the election timetable. This begins after the notice of election has been published. You can read guidance about standing as a candidate and download the relevant nomination pack on the Electoral Commission website: Guidance for Candidates and Agents at local government elections in England (electoralcommission.org.uk)

We will be holding a virtual briefing session for any prospective candidates at 6:30pm on 6 March 2025 via Microsoft Teams. This session will cover the key dates in the election timetable and how to complete each section of the nomination paper.

If you would like to attend this briefing session, please register your interest by completing the Electoral Services contact form below (you will need to provide an email address).

How to vote

There are three ways to cast your vote on polling day. It is a good idea to think about which method works best for you well in advance, so you have plenty of time to apply if you need to:

  • You can vote in person in the polling station. Remember that all voters in the polling station will need to show photographic ID before voting. You can find more information about acceptable ID and how to vote in person here: voting at the polling station
  • You can apply to fill in your ballot paper in advance and send it to us in the post. You can find out more information about applying and completing your postal voting pack here: voting by post. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Monday 14 April 2024
  • You can apply to vote by proxy, which is when someone you trust goes to your polling station and fills in your ballot paper for you. You can find out more information about how to apply here: voting by proxy. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2024
