Textiles and shoes

The kerbside service

The council has provided kerbside collections of textiles since 2003.

The bags for textiles are red and see-through. Printed on the bags will be instructions and a list of suitable items.

These textile bags can be used as and when they are needed. The collection day is the same as for all your recycling and is shown as a blue square on your collection calendar.

If you do not have a red bag and want to use the service straight away, then you can put suitable items into a bag and place next to the wheeled bin. Please make sure the bag is see-through and label as textiles so that the collection crew are aware of the contents. Alternatively you can request a red bag online or contact us by phone.

Suitable items include:

  • Clothes
  • Shoes (in pairs)
  • Household linens such as curtains and duvet covers
  • Pillowcases
  • Towels and tea towels
  • Curtains
  • Handbags and belts

Items which aren't suitable for the red bag

Please note that duvets, quilts, cushions and pillows are not suitable.

Try to repurpose/upcycle items. For example, there are companies and charities which will take old clothes and textiles off you.

Please note:

Please also make sure all items are clean and kept dry.

All residents can take part in the fortnightly kerbside recycling collections.

If in doubt, please contact us. You can either complete our Waste Services contact form or telephone us on 01455 238141.
