Gambling Act 2005 - gaming licences
Public houses
Up to two gaming machines
Pubs and other licensed premises will have an automatic entitlement to two gaming machines, subject to a simple notification procedure and a one-off fee. The premises licence holder under the Licensing Act 2003 should write to the council notifying us of your intention to make one or two Category C (£70 jackpot) or D (£5 cash/£8 tokens) gaming machines available on the premises, in accordance with the automatic entitlement.
There is a one-off fee of £50 payable for this entitlement, which will need to be enclosed with the notification. The entitlement will be issued in the name of the premises licence holder and will be for an unlimited duration or until the premises licence holder changes, in which case the new licence holder will need to apply for a new permit.
More than two gaming machines
Pubs and other licensed premises which want to offer more than two gaming machines will need to apply to the council for a licensed premises gaming machine permit.
If you want to apply for more gaming machines than you are currently licensed for, you will need to apply for a licensed premises gaming machine permit under the Gambling Act 2005. The licensing section will be required to issue you with a permit under the new act authorising the number of machines you are currently entitled to and then consider your application for more machines on its merit.
There will be a fee for a licensed premises gaming machine permit, which will need to be enclosed with the application. The permit will be of unlimited duration. However, holders of this permit will be required to pay an annual fee of £50 to the council as licensing authority.

Transfer of an alcohol licence gaming machine permit
Where a person applies to a licensing authority for the transfer of an alcohol premises licence, they will also need to apply separately for the transfer of the licensed premises gaming machine permit. Please contact Licensing if you want an application form to transfer a licensed premises gaming machine permit.
Automatic entitlement to two machines
A renewal of the automatic entitlement is required only where there is a change in the alcohol licence premises holder (either due to a transfer of licence or application for new licence), not for a change in designated premises supervisor.
