Garden (green waste) recycling service

About the garden waste recycling service

Brown wheeled bin

We operate a garden waste recycling service. Garden waste bins are provided with a brown lid and a black or brown bin base. There are two sizes: 240 litres (standard size) and 140 litres. The garden waste we collect is taken to local farms for composting.

You can share a bin with a neighbour

This is a mutual agreement: one of you must order and pay for the bin. The person who orders and pays for the bin must report a missed collection. We cannot become involved in disputes between neighbours over a shared bin.

You will be able to order a bin for someone else

When you are ordering please specify the address where the garden waste bin is located. All correspondence will be sent to the address from where the garden waste collection will be made.

When we collect garden waste

We collect the garden waste bins all year round, except for the two weeks of Christmas and New Year. There may be exceptional circumstances where we are unable to collect your bin, for example when the contents are frozen due to bad weather. Go to our terms and conditions for more information.

To check your collection day, please use the collection day calendar

What goes in the garden bin?

The bin is for garden waste only. Find out:

Your garden waste must fit in your bin

You must put all garden waste in your brown bin and the lid must be firmly closed. Extra bags of garden waste cannot be taken because it is unsafe for the crew to stand at the back of the vehicle to empty out bags. Consider purchasing an additional bin if you regularly have additional waste. You can also take your garden waste to the tip: Barwell tip (leicestershire.gov.uk). You cannot put your garden waste into your black lidded bin.

Damaged bins

If you damage the bin and it needs replacing, costs will apply. If the bin needs replacing due to wear and tear, or if we damage the bin, then we replace the bin free of charge. More about lost and damaged bins

Lost stickers?

Please contact us if you have lost any of your stickers.

Moving home

If you are moving home within the borough of Hinckley & Bosworth and you use the garden waste service, you will need to take your bin with you when you move. You will also need to contact waste services to request a change of address label for the service. More about moving house – garden bins

To cancel the service

You can arrange to have your bin collected. You will also need to cancel your direct debit with your bank if you pay by this method. There are no refunds.
