Accessibility statement - jobs and careers

The statement

https://jobsandcareers.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards. This website was created using a builder by Talos360.

Measures to support accessibility

https://jobsandcareers.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/ takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our website:

  • Monitor new content to make sure it meets the standards before it is published
  • Review existing pages when making updates to ensure they are compliant
  • Use software such as WAVE and Web Accessibility Insights to test the pages

How accessible this website is

We are aware that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Some images lack appropriate alternative text (alt tags)
  • There are instances where form labels on our web forms are not correctly associated with their corresponding form elements
  • Some buttons have description text missing
  • Some elements cannot be accessed using the keyboard
  • Focus order may differ from the visual reading order

However, we are committed to address these items at the earliest opportunity and ensure that you can:

  • Change colours, contrast levels, and fonts using browser or device settings
  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Compliance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: level A, level AA, and level AAA.

https://jobsandcareers.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

We are aware of the following non-compliance issues:

  • Orphaned form labels: There are instances where form labels on our web forms are not correctly associated with their corresponding form elements. This may cause confusion for users with screen readers or other assistive technologies as a clear and logical structure is not ensured. This fails WCAG success criterion 1.3.1: Info and Relationships
  • Form elements must have labels: Some form elements on our website are missing labels. This can create issues for users who rely on screen readers to understand the purpose of the form elements. This fails WCAG success criterion 4.1.2: Name, Role, Value
  • Buttons must have discernible text: Some buttons have discernible text missing in their coding. Discernible text is the display text that tells a user the purpose of the button. Users who depend on screen readers or have images disabled may miss valuable information conveyed through these images. This fails WCAG success criterion 4.1.2: Name, Role, Value
  • Links must have discernible text: Some links have discernible text missing. This makes it difficult for users to understand the purpose of the link, especially those using screen readers. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.4.4: Link Purpose (In Context)
  • Elements cannot be accessed using the keyboard: Some elements on our website cannot be accessed using a keyboard. Users should be able to use a keyboard to access all content and functionality of a web page. This means the page can be used by people with no vision as well as people who use alternative keyboards or input devices that act as a keyboard. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.1.1: Keyboard
  • Focus order may differ from the visual reading order: The focus order on some pages may differ from the visual reading order, causing confusion for users navigating with a keyboard or assistive technologies. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.4.3: Focus Order
  • Buttons do not have a visible focus: Our buttons do not display a visible focus indicator when navigated using a keyboard. This can make it difficult for users who rely on keyboard navigation to understand where their focus is on the page. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.4.7: Focus Visible
  • Some images do not have alternative text: Elements containing role="img" on our website do not always have alternative text or alt attributes. This makes it difficult for users with visual impairments to understand the content and purpose of these images. This fails WCAG success criterion 1.1.1: Non-text Content
