The UN climate conference, COP29, hosted by Azerbaijan took place from 11 November to 22 November 2024. It concluded with an agreement calling on developed countries to deliver at least $300 billion per year to developing countries by 2035 to drastically reduce green house gas emissions whilst also protecting lives and livelihoods from worsening impacts of climate change.
The UK Climate Change Committee published their 2024 progress report in July which highlights the need to focus on delivering climate change commitments. It also states there is an urgent need to get the UK on track to meet the 2030 target. We also need to empower and inform households to make low-carbon choices as we aim to achieve net zero by 2050. The intergovernmental panel on climate change produced a report in August 2023 confirming that we cannot wait to tackle climate change and deeming it a code red for humanity. Find out more about what climate change is and what is being done (bbc.co.uk)
