Sponsors of the 2024 free trees scheme
A huge thank you to our sponsors, without whom we would not have been able to give away this many trees.
Primary sponsor: Hinckley & Rugby Building Society
Hinckley and Rugby Building Society gave £5000 to sponsor this scheme and are championing climate change initiatives within their business. They chair the Hinckley and Bosworth Green Business forum, and their staff volunteered to plant the tiny forests in Hinckley last winter.
Hinckley & Rugby Building Society is also committed to identifying ways to reduce its carbon footprint. In July, the Society installed 111 solar panels at the head office in Hinckley, which will result in a saving of approximately 21.2 tonnes of CO2e of carbon per year. It will also directly offset 20 to 25% of the head office’s annual electricity.
The Society also chairs the Hinckley & Bosworth Business Climate Forum, which works with other local businesses to share ideas and knowledge about reducing the environmental impact of our businesses, and continues to investigate new and innovative ways to support its members and local communities.
National Forest
The first forest to be created at scale in England for more than 1,000 years, the National Forest, now covers 200 square miles of mixed habitat and forest and includes the northern part of Hinckley and Bosworth. Nine million trees have been planted so far, so if you live in the National Forest and you are planting a tree in your garden, you are part of this incredible transformation. There are many great places to visit in the Forest and there is a 75-mile walking trail for those who want to stretch their legs. There are also volunteer groups who engage in a wide range of activities, for those who want to become more actively involved.
The National Forest have helped to fund the trees which will be planted in the National Forest areas of Hinckley and Bosworth as part of this free tree scheme.
