Dogs
Dogs only bark for extended periods when they are not content.
Some owners leave their dogs alone in their homes, outhouses or gardens when they are at work, which may mean that if the dog barks during this time, their owners may not realise there is a problem until a neighbour makes a complaint to us.
Dog walking services can be a useful way of keeping your dog exercised and happier during the day when it may bark due to boredom.
If your dog barks to guard its territory, use screens so it cannot see people or traffic passing by.
Ensure that you supervise your dog if let out at a time when it may disturb neighbours, such as late at night or very early in the morning.
Cockerels
Correct housing of cockerels and hens is the key to avoiding disturbing your neighbours.
Think about where you put your poultry and its housing; try to keep it away from neighbours where possible. If you are not intending to breed from your hens, you do not need to keep a cockerel.
Ensure cockerels are kept in a light proofed shed/cage at night and are only released at an appropriate time in the morning. If light is able to enter their accommodation, cockerels will begin to crow and, as the mornings become lighter, this becomes increasingly early.
If you wish to make a complaint about an ongoing noise issue then you can report a noise problem
