Congerstone Conservation Area
Overview
The Congerstone Conservation Area, centred on Memorial Green at the intersection of Main Street and Bardon Road, was designated by the council in November 1996.
The character of the conservation area is primarily derived from the agricultural origins of the settlement when it was part of the Gopsall Estate. This can be identified through a number of existing and former farm buildings, such as Fox Covert Farm, Ivy House Farm, Church House Farm and Tithe Farm/Glebe Farm, some of which were designed in the distinctive Gopsall styles.
The attractive setting of the church of St Mary and The Old Rectory, as well as the significant number of important trees and the extensive use of Carlton stone walls throughout the village, contribute to the distinct visual character of the area.
