Borough Council launches solar panel buying scheme for residents
BOROUGH RESIDENTS may save on energy bills and help cut carbon emissions by investing in solar panels through an exciting new group-buying energy scheme which goes live today (Monday 9 May).
Solar Together Leicestershire helps people looking to make an investment in solar panels on their house and battery storage systems for a reduced rate.
Signing up is free for residents and is open now. For more information and to sign up (this scheme is now closed)
Residents who register will be entered into an auction, where Solar PV suppliers compete by offering the lowest rate for solar panel installation. The more people registered, the lower the price could be.
Working with iChoosr, Solar Together then provides those signed up with a free, no obligation offer from the successful energy supplier. A personal recommendation will be emailed out with information on the winning solar panel installer, the proposed system, costs, and savings ready for residents to make their choice.
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is currently working towards the authority being carbon neutral by 2030.
Installing solar panels on homes can reduce carbon emissions by generating clean electricity and save homeowners money on energy costs.
The scheme also includes solar panels with optional battery storage and electric vehicle charging points as well as retrofit battery storage for residents who have already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate, as well as increase their independence from the grid.
Martin Cartwright, Executive Member for Climate Change said:
Our target is to be carbon net zero as a borough council by 2050, and to achieve this we all need to make changes and play our part.
We’re delighted to join with Solar Together and be part of an initiative giving residents the opportunity to reduce their energy costs and support our green agenda.
It’s the perfect time to help households from all across the county take steps towards greater energy independence by working alongside other authorities on this scheme.
Registration closes on Tuesday 14 June with the selection revealed from Monday 4 July onwards.
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is working in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council, Harborough District Council, Blaby District Council, Leicestershire County Council, Melton Borough Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council.
