Hinckley BID’s 11th annual Soap Box Derby
Press release issued by Hinckley BID:
Hinckley BID’s 11th annual Soap Box Derby on Sunday 26 June once again proved a real winner with the 25 teams who entered - and a record crowd of many thousands of spectators who came from all over the Midlands and beyond to cheer on the drivers, aged between 12 and 70.
Held on Castle Street - Hinckley’s main shopping street – speeds of up to 35pmh are recorded by some of the carefully crafted soap boxes who do battle for the time-trial annual trophies.
With categories including Senior and Junior, Professional and Amateur, Novelty and ‘Best Turned Out Soap Box & Crew’ – the entries this year surpassed all expectations and some of the teams names reflected their enthusiasm - The Banana Bunch, Greenturtles Racing and Haymaker!
Organiser, Toni Scott of Hinckley BID, commented:
Once again the weather held out for our brave entrants to push their vehicles to the limit – our thanks to all who entered and to the many volunteers who assisted us.
BID Director Steve Wegerif added:
Our thanks to all the businesses in Hinckley Town centre – their financial contribution to the BID enables these huge events to take place and allow us to showcase the very best of Hinckley. Thanks also to those who made this event happen.
