New photographic exhibition opens in time for half-term
Art lovers, photographers, families and residents are being invited to visit the latest exhibition at The Atkins Gallery.
That Hat (and Other Things) is a photographic exhibition by Robin Vallance, an amateur photographer and former BBC camera operative. It will open in time for October half-term week, running from Monday 17 October until Friday 11 November at the popular Hinckley gallery, based in the town’s Atkins Building.
Exhibitor Robin is a founding member of the Breaking Barriers Photographic Group, and his main interests are portraiture, landscape and street photography.
The upcoming exhibition will feature photos taken in both colour and monochrome and will have four themes:
- That Hat, a series of photographs of Robin’s partner who wears a particular hat whenever they go on holiday. The emphasis of the photographs is on composition and beauty
- Staircases, which celebrates the attraction of a series of steps and the mystery they convey
- Colour, a series of photographs which focus on the pleasure of bright surfaces
- Faces, an uncompromising group of portraits previously shown at the Rugby Art Gallery and Museum
Councillor Keith Nichols, Executive Member for Culture at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, said:
This promises to be another fantastic exhibition, held at the Atkins Gallery in The Atkins Building. If you’re looking for something to do, particularly during half-term week, this is a fantastic, free event with something for everyone. I’d urge you to go along and see the photos for yourself, before stopping off at the Hansom Café for a spot of cake
Free activity sheets for children will be available during the October half term and throughout the exhibition. Atkins Gallery is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Hansom Café core hours 9am to 2pm. Hansom Café serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea alongside their daily specials and Fairtrade coffee.
