A directory of ‘warm places’ which are opening their doors to residents concerned about rising bills has been launched by the Borough Council.

Many households are struggling with the cost of living, particularly thanks to mounting energy bills, leaving residents and families facing tough decisions about whether and when they can heat their homes.

To help residents during this challenging time, the council has developed a warm places directory. Warm places are existing community or business places that provide a safe and friendly public space where people of all ages can go and spend time reading, studying, chatting with others and meeting new people.

Some of the venues also offer support, services and advice. The directory is available on this website with warm places located throughout the borough including in: Barlestone, Barwell, Burbage, Desford, Earl Shilton, Hinckley, Market Bosworth, Newbold Verdon, Sheepy Magna and Stanton Under Bardon. Venues can also add their details to the directory.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Stuart Bray, said:

As winter approaches, some people may struggle to heat their homes. However, there are many free warm places across the borough where people can not only stay warm but meet others and enjoy a hot drink and activities. The list of spaces is growing daily and I would urge resident to regularly re-visit the page for updates. Cost of living advice and information is also available on the website. If you need help or if you are concerned about how to pay your bills please get in touch, there are many organisations who can help.
