Town centre tennis courts renovation project complete
Popular Hinckley tennis courts have received a £14,000 renovation, as part of an exciting scheme to get more people into the sport.
The courts, based at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council’s Green Flag award-winning Hollycroft Park, have been refurbished thanks to funds from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Tennis Foundation and the UK government.
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council has also joined forces with the LTA to offer a regular range of fun and free activities at the courts as part of the investment into the town centre location.
It is hoped that this will offer plenty of opportunities for adults and children to get active, as well as making the sport more accessible to residents.
Activities include a weekly free tennis session for all ages and playing levels. Equipment will be provided.
There will also be a local tennis league, which will give residents the chance to take part in friendly, sociable competition.
Councillor Mark Bools, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Culture and Leisure said:
We would like to thank the LTA for the grant to refurbish Hollycroft Park Tennis Courts. This grant will help provide amazing facilities for the local community and support people of all ages to be more active and energetic.
Councillor Linda Hodgkins, Executive Member for Green Spaces, added:
This is very welcome news. We cannot wait to see even more people using the courts, having fun and getting more fit and active in our much-loved Hollycroft Park.
Julie Porter, Chief Operating Officer at the LTA, added:
We are delighted to be working with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council to improve their park tennis facilities and provide more opportunities for anyone to pick up a racket and get active. This investment is part of the UK government and LTA’s Parks Tennis Project and will mean that courts will be available for people to use for years to come.
We are also working closely with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council to ensure that the local community has a range of accessible opportunities to get on court and open up our sport to many more people.
The courts can be booked online
