Event offers free bicycle maintenance for residents
Keen cyclists and commuters are being invited to a special event which promotes sustainable transport in Hinckley and Bosworth.
A day with Dr Bike will be held on 22 September at Hinckley Leisure Centre from 10am until 2pm and will give cyclists the chance to have their bikes serviced and assessed, completely free of charge.
The event is being held in honour of World Car Free Day, with a skilled technician from Northside Bikes onsite to help repair and maintain bicycles and offer further advice. This Active Travel project has received funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The event will also provide residents with the opportunity to talk to the local council and police force about any thoughts or concerns they may have regarding bicycle safety and active travel in the borough. Participants will be offered a variety of ways to share their views, including an anonymous comments box.
The event is free and is open to all residents - just bring your bike.
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (gov.uk) is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
The Borough Council’s Executive Member for Leisure, Deputy Leader, Councillor Mark Bools said:
We know that more and more residents are now ditching their cars and dusting the cobwebs off their bicycles for a more sustainable mode of transport. However, many people understandably have concerns about the safety of cycling and may need support and advice, so please come along and chat to our range of experts at the event. There is also the chance to get your bike serviced and even fixed (where possible), so come along and bring your bike!”
