Crowds at Proms in the Park event in Hollycroft Park

HINCKLEY’S Hollycroft Park will come alive with the sound of music when the popular Proms in the Park concert returns on Saturday 8 June.

Organised by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, the free open-air concert will feature performances from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Wind Orchestra, an ensemble comprising more than 50 talented young musicians.

Under the baton of acclaimed conductor Douglas Mitchell, the RBC Wind Orchestra will be performing a feast of well-known music including much-loved scores from films Star Wars ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘Dambusters’. Scottish Dances by Malcom Arnold and music by Bernstein from Candide, with Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No 1 and Walton’s Crown Imperial ensuring that the concert ends in true flag-waving style.

The orchestra will be joined by singer Samantha Oxborough, a graduate of The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and notably sang the National Anthem at The Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Local business Bond Street Distillery will be providing an outdoor bar for adult visitors to enjoy, and stalls will also be available selling tea, coffee and ice cream.

Events Officer Cat Stilling said:

We welcome Douglas Mitchell, Samantha Oxborough and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Wind Orchestra and look forward to a fun filled evening. So, bring your deck chairs and picnics or enjoy an ice cream or drink from one of the refreshment stalls and settle down to enjoy the great musical talent, the singing and the flag waving in our award-winning park.

Also, our thanks also to Hinckley Music Club, who sadly after sixty years in the town has closed and has donated to this evening.

The event is free to attend, and no booking is necessary. However, capacity is limited in the auditorium area and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.  The event gates will open at 5pm with the concert starting at 6pm. The event is due to finish at 8.30pm. Please queue to enter the auditorium from the gate entrance on Hollycroft just before Westray Drive, entry into the auditorium area is not possible from other points.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead, please pick up after your dog.

The park's car park will only be available for Blue Badge holders, with a member of staff positioned at the gate - spaces are limited. We recommend that people use public transport or walk to the event where possible. If you are driving, please park in town centre car parks and walk to the event rather than using residential on-street parking. There will be temporary no waiting or loading restrictions in place on Westray Drive from 3pm on the day of the event.

Those attending are politely asked to take any litter home with you or dispose of it in an appropriate bin. There will be portable toilets and handwashing facilities on site and the toilets at the pavilion will be open for the evening too.
