Snap Dragon returns to Argents Mead with guest visit from TV’s Pip and Posy on National Play Day

Popular Snap Dragon Children and Families Festival is back with three fun filled days for the family in Hinckley's Argents Mead with a special visit on National Play Day from TV stars Pip and Posy.

The festival takes place from Monday 5 August to Wednesday 7 August from 11am to 3pm each day and is free to attend. Each day of the festival features a different theme with Monday - Flower Power, recognising and celebrating the council's 50th anniversary, Tuesday - Go for gold, marking the start of the Olympics and Paralympics and Wednesday is National Play Day celebrating play, fun and friendship.   
  
Every day for free children can enjoy a traditional day at the seaside in the giant sand pit part sponsored by Hinckley BID. There is a chance to meet Snappy, the Festival’s dragon mascot, have your photo taken on our giant deckchair, groove in the Snappy disco provided by Fosse 107, plus JoJo and Tigby will be in the storytelling tent each day.  
  
In addition, there will be fair rides, but they will be charged at £2, cash only.  
  
The themed events for each day are:  
  
Monday 5 August – Flower Power, celebrating the council's 50th anniversary. There will be a welcome by the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, Cllr Robin Webber-Jones and a big hello from the festival’s mascot Snappy.  The ugly bugs wingding an entrancing short puppetry show for all the family, poetry workshop, bubble workshop, tuff tray corner and a variety of fun and games provided by departments across the council. 
  
Tuesday 6 August – Go for Gold. Enjoy a demonstration of taekwondo by Jonnie from Spartans Kickboxing Academy, there’s a chance to hold an Olympic torch with local ‘Unsung Hero’ Denise Shannon, a climbing wall (£1 a go, cash only), plus a variety of local sports clubs will be attending with have-a-go activities, and there is the traditional mascot race.   
  
Wednesday 7 August - National Play Day. Come and say hello to TV stars Pip and Posy, from Magic Light Pictures’ hugely popular and award-winning animated pre-school series on Milkshake! and Sky Kids. Pip and Posy are the best of friends whose lives revolve around a wonderful world of play. Packed with warmth and humour, the series is full of laughter and games, and the challenges that friendship’s journey brings. Pip and Posy will be appearing throughout the day, starting at 11.15am with exciting goodies and activities for all those attending. Alongside this the Active Mums Club will be leading some musical fun exercises you can do with your baby, listen to tales from Tom the Tale Teller, have fun in the mini role play village and join in the Snappy disco and parachute games. Knight School will be open for children aged 5 to 12 years, class times will be 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm with limited spaces on each, please book your time slot at the information stand. For younger children there will be a circus skills workshop. If the weather remains fine the water slide will be in action, so bring your costume and a towel. 
   
An Information Stand will be located at the flagpole and children can pick up a free trail sheet or bug hunting kit. There will be a free water re-fill station available for anyone who comes to the event with their own re-useable drinks bottle, alternatively Snap Dragon drinks bottles or squash can be purchased as well as Snap Dragon t-shirts for children (cash only).  
  
Each day there will be different stalls selling a range of items from bath-bombs to jewellery, as well organisations such as Hinckley Library, Hinckley & Bosworth Medical Alliance, Friends of Hollycroft Park, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, Hinckley Leisure Centre, Leicestershire County Council – Family Help, LessWaste, Health Watch, Leicestershire Police, NHS School Immunisation Service, RubyTots and Hinckley Fixers. Local charities will also be in attendance with fun tombolas, and you can also purchase tasty treats from Devine Doughnuts and Yesterware Sweets. 
 
Also, for anyone who has any sensory requirements there will be a calm corner, a wigwam with sensory aids and and toys.
