Cineworld

We are deeply concerned to hear that Cineworld intends to close six UK cinemas, including its cinema in Hinckley, in the coming weeks.

This is sad news for our residents and extremely worrying for Cineworld employees.

We have contacted Cineworld urgently to see if there is an opportunity to avert this closure; to date, we have received no such request from them.

The Hinckley Cineworld cinema is part of The Crescent, the multi-million-pound town centre mixed retail and leisure redevelopment scheme which opened in December 2015. The cinema is a key facility that the residents of the borough asked to see returned to the town as part of the redevelopment.

Since then, the Borough Council has provided support packages including rent discounts to help it recover from impact of the pandemic.

Council Leader Stuart Bray said:

“This is extremely sad and disappointing news as the cinema is much loved by the residents of this borough. We will work with our partners including the Department for Work and Pensions to provide help and advice to Cineworld employees at this worrying time and do what we can to help safeguard the future of this great facility for our residents and visitors.
