Fun enjoyed by all at Burbage Common Open Day

Visitors to Burbage Common enjoyed a fun-packed day on Sunday (September 8) at its annual open day event.

A marquee transformed the area around the visitor centre at the Leicester Road entrance, accommodating a number of stalls including craft stalls, charity stalls and local and national environmental charities.

There was fun for the whole family throughout the day. This included morris dancing, cheerleading and falconry displays, plus a tai chi demonstration.

There was also bug and bird box making, donkey rides and archery; which plenty of children and their families enjoyed.

Amid all the fun, there were many food and refreshment stalls, plus a chance to stock up on tasty local produce from the farmers’ market area.

The event was originally due to take place in May, but it was rescheduled after persistent rain made the ground conditions unsuitable earlier this year.

Cllr Lynda Hodgkins, Executive Member for Parks, said: "The open day at Burbage Common was a great success again this year.

“It was a joy to see smiles on the faces of people from all generations. Thank you to everyone who visited, we can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
