Woman fined in court over Sutton Cheney fly-tipping
A Hinckley woman has been ordered to pay a total of £468 by Leicester Magistrates Court after a fly-tip was discovered in Sutton Cheney last October.
Jade Kavanagh of Beryl Avenue, Hinckley, pleaded guilty after household waste, white goods and building rubble was found dumped in a gateway on Ambion Lane, Sutton Cheney.
Evidence found among the waste linked it to Ms Kavanagh, and the Borough Council prosecuted her after she failed to pay a £400 fixed penalty notice (FPN).
In court last Wednesday (23 October), Ms Kavanagh entered a guilty plea, accepting responsibility only for a fridge and two bin bags that had been dumped. The magistrates issued a £334 fine, with a further £134 victim surcharge.
Speaking after the case, Cllr Lynda Hodgkins, Executive Member for Parks, Open Spaces and Neighbourhood Services, said: “It is a shame to see that fly-tipping continues to be a problem, but successful prosecutions like this will hopefully make people think twice before illegally dumping their waste in future.
“This serves as a reminder that Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council takes fly-tipping seriously and that you can be fined or prosecuted if caught. Thank you to our Clean Neighbourhoods and legal teams for their work on this case.”
As of April 2024, the fixed penalty notice for fly-tipping has now doubled to £800.
