Summer events set to return 

With public safety the top priority, most of the larger events the Borough Council and Hinckley BID organise in Hinckley town centre annually were cancelled last year due to the pandemic, with only smaller events that enabled visitors to participate in a COVID secure way going ahead. 

However, with the roadmap out of lockdown indicating that all legal restrictions on gatherings and organised events could be lifted from late June, the Borough Council and Hinckley BID are now provisionally planning for the return of a number of popular events.

Some of the events that are provisionally set to return this summer include Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26 June and Feast Hinckley, the free-to-attend foodie spectacular on the weekend of 7 to 8 August. 

There is set to be even more fun for children in the summer with the Snapdragon Children’s Festival returning from 4 to 6 August in Argents Mead and BID’s Summer of Fun offering free weekly entertainment for children throughout the summer holidays in Hinckley town centre.

Music in the Mead live weekly music performances are also set to return to Argents Mead bandstand on Saturdays from 3 July until 18 September. The live performances did take place last year, thanks to special COVID-secure arrangements being in place.

Later in the summer, it is hoped that Hinckley’s Hollycroft Park will come alive with the sound of music when the popular Proms in the Park free open air concert is set to return on Saturday 4 September. Organised by the Borough Council and Hinckley Round Table, the live music event will be back by popular demand following a six-year hiatus.

For motor enthusiasts, Hinckley BID’s Motorshow for Classic Cars & Vehicles of Special Interest (the UK’s largest town centre free motorshow) is also set to return on Sunday 19 September, with summer evening vehicle meets taking place on 15 July and 19 August.

We all hope that as the restrictions begin to lift, we can all look forward to getting out and doing things we enjoy doing freely with our friends and families once again this summer.  The events calendar is important for residents and businesses alike and we’re all keen to make them successful and enjoyable, but public safety is and will remain an absolute priority so we will continue to review national advice and make any necessary changes and adaptations to operate great events everyone can enjoy safely this year. Until then, I’d urge everyone to keep following the guidance so that we can all return to some normality this summer.
